Ola en Espana! My base for the next three weeks. I’m all connected up over here so everything will continue as usual with the next copy uploaded being a preview of the Northumberland Plate in Big Race Focus on Wednesday followed by Horses to Follow on Thursday and a preview of the Euro 2016 last-16 knockout stages and Andy Richmond's look back at Royal Ascot in his Beating The Bias column on Friday. Then I’ll start looking at the Tour de France next week which starts on July 2nd and Carl Redden will be putting together his Wimbledon views.
Royal Ascot was never going to be easy with all the rain and we had and up-and-down week. Tuesday was good, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday were okay and the less said about Friday the better. The ante-post side of things went well even if three of the eight recommendations ended up as non runners - Twilight Son at 8/1 and Profitable at 7/1 being the stars. Order Of St George was the most impressive winner of the week for my money and it’s a shame that there appears to be no plans for him to take on Postponed in the King George as that would have been a race to savour. The next festival I will be covering in full is the Newmarket July Meeting between taking place between July 7th-9th.
For the second Major running I didn’t really get a sniff with Dustin Johnson running out a three-strokes’ winner which was exactly 12 months later than I wanted! I was also on him for The Open last year where he was up there for a long way before dropping away so if he can follow up at Royal Troon, that will really twist the dagger further. With a first Major under his belt, it will be no surprise if he goes on to win plenty more now.
The football went a lot better than the golf and we extended the level stakes profit figure to over 20pts on Euro 2016 last night when Albania won meaning that the 12/5 recommendation of Romania finishing bottom of the group was a winner. Tonight is the potential big winner for the pre-tournament group betting recommendations however as an England-Wales 1-2 was recommended at 5/1 (there is an outside chance of England-Slovakia advised at 7/1 could also happen) as was 11/2 about Group B being the highest scoring and it is three goals clear after the first two matches, so no letting up tonight please boys unlike in last night’s snorefest. In case you missed it, I previewed all 12 final group matches yesterday morning.
